Katakolon - the gateway to Olympia

Thursday, 9th October 2014
Today I will take you to Katakolon which is the gateway into the Ancient Olympia.

We had purchased an excursion that would take us to the birthplace of Olympic Games. Olympia's ruins are impressive. We can visit the original Olympic Stadium, walk through the remains of some of the buildings where athletes trained and temples where they made offerings, and visit the excellent on-site museum.

Happy viewing!

Basically we were there to see 'batu' only! :P

Katakolon town is the current harbor of the regions capital city Pyrgos, and its town center is within a gulf overlooking the Ionian Sea.

It is a pleasant little village which is a base for taking excursions to the historic site of Olympia. But of course, being only a small village, the main street was crowded with lots of souvenir shops. There are also plenty of taverns on the waterfront.

How lovely of the crew members to greet us passengers back on deck with cold towels, ice water, music and dancing.

And then it was time to say goodbye to our last port of call, Katakolon. Tomorrow will be a full day at sea before we returned back to Venice.

And look what I found hanging on the wall when I returned to the cabin?

We had dinner at Alizar (again!) followed by another show at Stardust.

I totally enjoyed this slice of 'New York Cheesecake' at Blue Lagoon.

Elements - NCL's own production show. From mesmerizing magic, to the visual feast of flying, to exciting music and dance, this dazzling show reveled the four elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire. (no photography or videotaping due to copyright laws.)

After the show, we were also presented with a 'You Are Norwegian Now' special finale by the Norwegian Jade officers, staff and crew.
