Home Sweet Home

18/5/2016

The Epic docked at 8am @ Civitavecchia Port. We had our breakfast at 'Garden Cafe' and it was time to say goodbye. Soon we collected our luggages at the cruise terminal the minute we walked out, up to the private transport to airport which we arranged earlier!

Good bye Norwegian Epic, till we see you again!

It was a pleasant flight back from Rome to Malaysia.

The last port of call - Naples

17/5/2016

Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast & Pompei

Have you ever made it to a place that you have been dreaming about? A place that has been on your bucket list for years? Yes! Amalfi Coast Italy, one of my bucket list destination and today I got more than I could ever asked for.

This was the last full day of our cruise, tomorrow we'll reach Rome and we disembark from the Epic. I was excited to go to Naples and this would be a long day out.  There was a lot of ground to cover!

Epic docked on time and soon we out the ship and met with other 2 couples from South Africa and Manchester. The 6 of us joined together to share in a mini-van with our private driver, Umberto which we arranged earlier before the cruise begin!

1st stop - Positano, is built almost entirely on the side of mountains - dramatically and precariously so. It practically drips into the sea, defying all expectations of gravity and foundations.
This is Mount Vesuvius. A scary mountain indeed. She is best known for her eruption in AD 79 and has a distinctive humpbacked sharp.

Our next stop was Sorrento, a small town in Campania, Southern Italy. The Amalfi Coast drive is a norrow road that threads along the high cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea.

I randomly grabbed a Sorrento t-shirt as a souvenir

Our tour guide, Umberto suggested and took us to try the typical Italian food in Positano, Fattoria La Tagliata, built on 3 terrances with the views of the isles of Galli and Capri.

Perhaps John Steinbeck said it best : "It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone."

We proceed our journey to Pompeii

Umberto, such a great tour guide! His commentary and personality added so much to the trip. He is truly wonderful, kind, funny and professional driver, and even entertained us while driving by singing along to the music! Thanks Umberto, you made our day!

After a fascinating visit, we made it back to the ship in good time and wrapped up our visit to Naples.
