Rome is an amazing city. It is also an exhausting city. It is so crowded with tourists and packed with so many monuments, churches, museums and piazzas. We spent 3 nights in Rome and we were constantly on the go! We saw most of the main tourist attractions.
We arrived in Rome for a pre-cruise stay, before boarding to Norwegian Epic. We flown by Emirates, transit at Dubai. The journey was pleasant and smooth. Arrived at Rome Airport, Fiumicino at 7am and we had arranged a private pick-up from the airport to the Hotel Independent Rome which cost us 29 Euro.
Checked-in was smooth. The staff gave us from the start immediately a nice welcome feeling by letting us check in at 9am which made us so comfortable to have a good rest after a long flight.
Transit at Dubai Airport.
We travelled on the "Mother's Day" !
Soon after we dropped the luggages and some rest, we headed out to explore this 'Ancient Rome'.
The Colosseum is the largest amphitheatre in the world and is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering.
Hotel Independent Roma - We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is contemporary, clean and the room is so spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was varied and delicious and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. The accommodation itself was excellent and the hotel boasts a lovely roof top terrace with bar that boasts great views of the city.
Just walking distance to Termini Station, a plus point added to it!
After a very satisfy and yummy breakfast. We out to explore our Day 2 adventure.
1st stop - Vatican City
2nd. stop - Castel Sant' Angelo
Piazza Navona
A dramatic Baroque masterpieca,
Rome's Trevi Fountain is considered to be the most famous fountain in the world. Each year, 7-10 million tourists make their way to Rome. One look at the crowds surrounding the fountain day and night, and it's fair to assume most travellers to Rome make a visit to the iconic Trevi Fountain.
I hold the coin on my right hand then tossed over the left shoulder to guarantee a return trip to Rome.
We had our dinner at
Babbo's. Recommended by our hotel staff. Charming city dining setting, comfortable, homey and good food. The prices are reasonable, not cheap but fair.
Day 3 - We were up bright and early and literally ready to conquer our last day in Rome. After a heartful breakfast, off we headed for a full day of sight-seeing and little shopping. This morning we intend to explore to their famous farmers open air market,
Campo de' Fiori.
We walked across the Tiber river to
Trastevere, a charming medieval neighbourhood with a fiery temperament. A stroll around Trastevere, a formerly working class district with a heady nightlife, will take you away from the crowds to the hidden corners of Rome.
After strolling a while and had simple lunch at Trastevere, we headed back to do a little shopping and just wandering around and called it a day.
